London shows house price rise, Land Registry reveals

Property for sale in London has risen in value
in 2009, new figures show.
According to the Land Registry, the area saw the most significant
increases in prices over the last year.
The organisation, which registers title to land in England and
Wales and records dealings with such land, noted that there was a
jump of 11.9 per cent from February 2009 to the same month this
year.
Meanwhile, the region that experienced the second biggest monthly
increase was the north-west.
Values there rose by 3.6 per cent between the first and second
months of 2010, it was revealed.
It was also shown that the average house price in England and Wales
now stands at £164,455.
Additionally, the Land Registry found that the number of completed
house sales in the two countries over the course of last month
increased by 89 per cent compared with December 2008.
Over the course of the 28-day period, a total of 73,889 such
transactions occurred.
